Goodnight Nanny-Cam

goodnight-nanny-cam.jpg
In the great green-certified room
There was a smartphone
And a silver spoon
And a picture of—
A high-contrast, brain-stimulating black-and-white moon
And there was a musical concert by Baby Mozart
And high window guards
And French flash cards
And a fireplace safety gate
And toys without phthalate
And a sterilizer and bottle brush and bowl full of organic mush
And a bilingual nanny who was whispering “hush”
Goodnight room
Goodnight recycled baby wipes with no perfume
Goodnight high-contrast black-and-white moon
Goodnight baby monitor
And the nanny-cam
Goodnight French flash cards
Bonne nuit petit canard
Goodnight non-slip socks
And goodnight sustainable-wood blocks
Goodnight friends with unique, unusual names
And goodnight brain-development games
Goodnight digital archive of baby’s first years
And goodnight Doctors Karp, Leach, Ferber, and Sears
Goodnight wipes warmer and yoga mat, HEPA filter and sun hat,
Sunscreen, sunglasses, sleep sack, outlet cap, sleep coach, G &T coach, star charts, consumer reports,
Vitamin D, anything with Omega-3, French au pair, filtered air and—
Goodnight alpha parents everywhere.

Ho Ho Ho

He had zero reaction, not happy or sad, which may have been a direct result of not having a nap all day.  He was zoned out the whole time!

5 months

Baby and I are both recovering from our cold now.  It lasted about a week and I think we are both finally starting to feel a little better today.
Yesterday we went to our friend Christmas get together and had great food and a white elephant gift exchange!  He got to wear his Christmas outfit early...I figured he should get more use out of it than just a one-time thing anyway, considering it was a little pricier than I would normally pay for a baby outfit.
Now just one presentation, a few lunches with friends, a little packing, and we are headed home for a week for christmas!

(you can see the eczema on his face in the last photo...it flared up really bad when he got sick)

sick babe

poor sick baby.
i've been holding him to sleep and consoling him at *almost* every whim so i hope he doesn't get used to this once he gets well again.  but in the meantime he is feeling awful, his cough this morning was hacking and he would cough and then cry because his cough hurt.  he needs to sleep but he doesn't want to by himself, which under normal circumstances would be fine, but i hate to let him cry or be upset when he's feeling so sick because i feel like it will aggravate his congestion if he is crying, or his screaming will hurt his throat.
go to bed baby!!  he needs it but he just doesn't know it : (

Jared's UHY holiday dinner was fancy and fun.  There were carolers hired, the Henry Ford Museum was reserved and they opened up a Lego exhibit for us (wahoo!), there were appetizers, free open bar with top shelf liquors and craft beers, prime rib, and several dessert stations where you could make your own ice cream creampuff or a faygo ice cream float.  There was also a sinful chocolate bumpy cake yum...

Also pics of baby at his 4 month appointment (even though he'll be 5 months next week).  He cried when he saw the doctor and today at lunch when he saw Cathy.  I'm starting to think he might be developing stranger-danger syndrome.  Uh oh!

These are belated pics of being a good baby at lunch and spending the biggest bar night of the year at a colleagues house making crafts we found on pinterest haha.  Old ladies!

19 weeks & a checkup

Wednesday, December 5, 2012
He weighed in at 15lbs, 6 oz
50th percentile for height and weight
60th percentile for head circumference
And he has the go-ahead to start solids at the normal time.
The pediatrician said that he is generally caught up in development and his prematurity shouldn't affect us starting to introduce solids in a month, or possibly in a few weeks if we decide to try some watered down oatmeal cereal.  We're still on the fence about the oatmeal so we'll see what there is out there.

In other news, he has really taken a liking to his footsies!
