I like to start on a negative note and end on a positive one, so some (minor but annoying) things that the previous owners neglected to do before getting the heck out of dodge were :
1. Allowing the lawn to overgrow for at least a week
2. Not cleaning out the garage; leaving broken dresser, ugly curio cabinet, broken basketball hoop, trash bins full of unbagged trash in a city that requires you to bring only the bags to the curb, and much more junk.
3. Not cleaning the toilet before leaving. C'mon now.
4. Leaving your old toothbrush cup with dirty gross toothpaste water in the bottom. Yeah, you bought it to match the tile in the bathroom, but did you really think we would want it?
5. No nail removal, no removal of huge screws that will leave about 1/2 cm wide holes in the walls, no spackling.
6. Not sweeping and leaving random boxes in different places in the house...least concerning on our list of things not done. But I would have done it if I were moving out of somewhere.
Here are some photos of the junk they so kindly left for us to handle...or so they thought, because I am calling my realtor and making them return for their leftovers, muahaha.
Ok that's all, I'm only a little more concerned than I normally would be because some of these things, like the junk in the garage, cannot be disposed of curbside in Grosse Pointe and we would need a tall ladder to even reach them to begin with. And I am pregnant and cannot be climbing a ladder to get a metal basketball hoop down regardless.
Photos of the house in its empty condition - the first and only time you will ever see it completely empty so I took advantage.
Fiesta orange color is the second color to go in this place
This very pinky taupe is the third color to go
The baby gets priority - his room is going to be more of a very pale minty blue I think. The current color is a traditional robins egg boy blue. Very "typical". And they even left the baseball themed light switch cover on near the door, yay! (first thing to get trashed in this place)
You will notice every room has this same size of closet. Tiny 2-foot wide ones. Needless to say we will be investing in some armoires and will become accustomed to not using closets for the next however-many years. I do have a few ideas for creating extra closet space in rooms but I'll have to think about it when we are moved in.
Looking downstairs from the stairway near the kitchen.
The downstairs carpeted half and the entertainment center that is built in and I think they may have broken one of the doors on it in their haste to move out. I'll have to check that out more closely also.
One of the rooms with storage space and a laundry. The bathroom is to the right and the 2nd storage space is a similar size on the opposite side where the hall splits off and has the hot water heater and all that in it.
There was a 2nd refrigerator in the corner but it is not there now so we will have to maybe put something there so it doesn't look so bare and weird. Possibly repaint the brick walls.
All done! Now the real work begins...and there is a lot more real work to do than I anticipated. Luckily our realtor is making the previous owners come back and take all the junky furniture with them from the garage....no idea what they were thinking when they left it but it's not our problem!
