Turning his head during tummy time

5 1/2 weeks

 Good workout!

This was supposed to be supported seating at the waist, but I can't really support his waist and take a photo.  He does o-k on his own though!

I think he got really excited about the fact that he can lift his head up using his extensor muscles (muscles generally on the back side of your body, like back of your neck to bend it back), because after we "worked out" and I carried him around the house he was flailing his bobble head all over the place making himself dizzy.  I think he is starting to realize he is going to start becoming a real baby soon!

Things we worked on today :
  • Bringing arms to midline and then to mouth (for pre-feeding movements)
  • Pushing on feet and pulling legs straight to straighten and strengthen (for pre-walking)
  • Massaging palms and digits (for fine motor later on)
  • Sitting upright - he doesn't have much muscle control now but it helps him feel how the upright position feels in his semicircular canals and gives him a different viewpoint visually...helps him see his hands and feet better.
  • Tummy time and neck strength

  1. I am finally catching up on your blog for the first time since I started school, and i LOVE it. My favorite picture is the one of grandmommy making a face at Elliott as he stretches his arms out... and they are both wearing lime green:) I like the pics of you and him in his various baby carriers too!

PS: What is a semicircular canal?
